Travel vs gaming September 26, 2008

I was disappointed to miss the Dopplr “Where next?” event last week. I had planned to turn up straight from the airport, dishevelled and luggage in hand—but my flight ran late.

I know what I want from travel: more plot. I want every trip to be a sort of Tintinesque adventure (up to a point; not sure about getting coshed over the head, locked in a suitcase and lobbed over the side of a ship).

I want to join a secret organisation and be sent on a mission to save the world from some evil brotherhood or something. I’ll only find out where I’m going when I get to the airport and open the envelope. I want assignations in rooftop bars, and secret HQs in derelict buildings that aren’t there when you go back. I want to have to buy a canary for a fat lady in return for a séance. I want a masquerade, fireworks, magic.

I want travel gaming.
